67 Challenge

So two years ago before the gen alpha meme was even a thing, my significant other and I talked about how she wanted to show me the musical Six but in other conversations talked about Seven being a movie she wants to see sometime so then we had the idea of when she gets to show me Six then we can watch Seven after and have a fun Six Seven thing.  Of course the meme became a thing and so now the Six Seven challenge became inevitable.  We got to do this recently as the original UK cast did a filming of a reunion show of Six that we got to see at the theater and then later that day we watched Seven at home.  

Six is a comedic musical by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss about the wives of Henry VIII telling their story of struggle with the late King but told in a comedic tone, presented as a rock concert almost like to see a band perform a concept album live.  The general vibe is more modern with references to modern society with music that ranges from heavy pop rock to hip hop to Happy Hardcore EDM.  Most of the story is about the queen's debating in a contest to prove who suffered the most from marriage to Henry until the end where they decide to forget the contest as they didn't want to define themselves through the scope of Henry VIII and decide to reclaim their characters individuality by imagining what life would have been without Henry.  

Seven is the classic David Fincher film from almost thirty years ago with Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman and I'm guessing by this point best known for spawning the classic what's in the box meme.  Seven is a detective procedural, crime thriller, about two detectives investigating a case of murders that use a calling card of each relating to a deadly sin from Christianity.  This of course is much darker in tone completing this little Barbenheimer combination of films.  

Six is very bright and vibrant with its colors whereas Seven is very dark in its cinematography, creating a gritty almost noir kind of vibe.  Six is very loud with its concert aesthetic but Seven, though it has loud moments, one thing that stuck out to me was how quiet it is, especially at the times of the investigation as the detectives are researching the case in reading the literature referenced by the suspect.  

Both have a common through point of existentialism where Six has a theme of women finding and recapturing their individuality from a society dominated by men with being a commentary of how in history so many women are always remembered as footnotes in relation to the men they were in relationships to.  Seven also show this reflection of a society dominated by men where the religion that is the main cornerstone in that society is used as an excuse for torture and murder where this culture leads to men who feel justified in their perceived divine right to enact their twisted views of justice.  But it also paints a dark picture of reality in which queens are barely remembered even though they serve at such a high place in society but a man believes he will be studied and remembered forever for the crimes he committed simply because of his projected sophistication of motive.  Even more sad that the latter has become even more true since the movie initially released with the media highlighting every vile criminal or mass murderer into what now feels more like fame than infamy.
