Alien Isolation
I've had this game in my backlog for a while and mostly got it due to the praise I've seen it receive over the years but never had much interest in it outside of that. I enjoyed the Alien movies when I was younger and have been meaning to watch them again, at least the first one. I decided to try this game finally because of my excitement for Silent Hill Townfall and learning recently that at least some of the development team is the same who made Alien Isolation. Now I only played this a little because I got stuck and when I looked up how to proceed it ended up being a way to go that I would never have guessed but I also got frustrated with the early game stealth as it was extremely unforgiving where a single mistake would mean dying and starting over again. When it comes to stealth games I'm used to the sort like Metal Gear Solid or other games that incorporate stealth like The Last of Us where you have some way of getting a bearing of where the enemies are. Here you don't get that at all, which made the trial and error feel even more frustrating to me. It also didn't help that before I got to this section I dealt with a game breaking bug that literally got me killed and the character animation didn't trigger right for a scene which caused me to play a section over again that originally took 30 minutes but thankfully was only five on replay so it wasn't too bad. But I do have some positive things I took note of to share:
I like the music a lot. It has a subtle Star Wars vibe with the arrangement of the orchestra with the woodwinds but is used in a more ominous way as opposed to the fantastical style in Star Wars which makes sense considering it Alien. Even when hiding in the vent this game went further than most with the human enemies opening the vent door acknowledging me hiding there but I bet right that they wouldn’t pursue but still cool how they came over for a second which is more than most games would do. They gave a threat that made it feel like they would pursue which is what actually had me question my choice for hiding there. Besides that I really liked the atmosphere built in the game in the short amount of time I played. I may go back and try it again sometime but for now I have other games I'd rather move on to for the time being.
