Resident Evil (Remake)
This is my favorite Resident Evil game and it is the one I come back to the most. I probably play this one every one to two years. I made a video about it too. For me this is the archetype of the perfect video game remake. I love the original Resident Evil on PS1 and I remember when this REmake came out on Gamecube when I was in middle school. I was just so blown away at how much they improved and how much cooler they made it.
This is the perfection of classic survival horror as well to me. Its use of photorealistic artwork is so sublime and I absolutely love it as it gives such a beautiful image to see when getting lost in the gameplay loop. For me I think this is mostly nostalgia but this is truly nostalgia incarnate for me just like Link's Awakening for the Zelda series. There's a lot of nostalgia for the original game too, especially the dualshock version of director's cut as that's the version I grew up with but when going back to that one there are many quality of life changes that have happened since in the series that are mostly seen in the remake which makes it a lot easier to go back to.
After this one I started playing the remake for RE2 and that has me so excited for if they remake the first game in the series again and give it the RE Engine treatment. The wall art in both versions of that is legendary and adding more would only make it even better. Side note if they do that remake for the picture puzzle I hope they bring back the original cradle to grave picture puzzle and upon solution a modernized version of the theme that plays from the Dualshock Director’s Cut version. For all the criticism that soundtrack got for songs like the basement, the cradle to grave solution theme was an absolute banger that vibed so perfectly with the conclusion of that puzzle and would fit so well getting one of the death masks like you do in the Gamecube REmake version of that room.
