Dino Crisis
I haven’t played this game since I was in middle school when it first came out. So I was very eager to revisit it and see how well it holds up today and how much of my favorable view of it was from nostalgia. And the verdict? I’d say it holds up really well. Yes it has the antiquated, dreaded tank controls and semi fixed angle camera system which is dynamic half the time but I feel it’s still really fun today. Only weird issues is how it doesn’t save files you read which was a weird choice since that’s been a thing since the first Resident Evil game and the inventory screen is a little janky especially with how you can’t combine multiple entries of the same ammo to consolidate inventory space. But besides that it was a very fun game. I really enjoyed how the puzzle in this had more of a brain teaser kind of feel in comparison to the puzzles seen in the old Resident Evil and Silent Hill games. It was more pattern recognition.
This game would be a great one to be remade though. Not that it necessarily has to have a remake but rather it would be a home run to adapt it for the modern RE Engine style of remakes. I’d still recommend fans of horror to play it in general especially since it does have a pretty foreboding atmosphere and delivers some good scares. I feel these scares can be even more realized today in a modern remake and I feel it’s puzzle system can be expanded upon too and make it standout today too. But it’s story is still very relevant for today. In the game it played it safe when it said “government” without technically saying which government it was but we know. We know.
