I finally played this one after always seeing it in lists of best new horror games over the last couple years and I have to say, it deserves all the hype. It is an experience that any horror fan should try. It does first come off like a cheap indie horror game and in some ways it really is. The story is okay and the mechanics can be a little janky at times but it excels greatly at the horror. The only criticism I have of the horror element in the game is it does have too many jump scares but not so many to take away from the overall experience but certainly could have done with toning it down quite a bit because it does get to the point where it becomes too expected but where the game shines is in its atmosphere and the delivery of it story.
Like I said, the story itself is alright but it has elements in how you experience the story that will never be forgotten. The creepiness level is at an all time high with this one where it made my skin crawl so much, I had to take breaks from the tension to regain my sanity. I don’t want to go into further detail because it would spoil the experience. It is a shorter game but I feel the horror felt throughout its play through is definitely a quality over quantity approach. It certainly challenged me to move forward and is definitely a new addition for me for a game that I will certainly play again in the future.
The last thing I’d like to point out is the puzzles and how they were generally fun to solve but there were some that I had to look up and even upon finding the solution I spent at least 30 minutes trying to connect the dots to figure out how its solution is found and still couldn’t figure it out. But even with that it is still a very fun game to play and experience. I highly recommend this to any fan of the horror genre. And even if you can’t play it, look up a play through to watch. Tis the season after all.
