Tron Ares

So this movie continues the legacy of the Tron franchise in every way I feel about it. Ares continues in a mix of seriousness and camp. The music is even better, granted I have a huge bias being a Nine Inch Nails fan. The visuals are peak and absolutely worth seeing in a theater but I’d say if you can don’t bother with the 3D experience, just see this on the big screen in general.

One thing I appreciated a lot in this film is it brought forth the main thing I felt missing from Legacy, the continuation of Dillinger’s story. I wonder if they had Evan Peters try playing the character as British since his grandfather was as played by the late David Warner. I don’t know if Peters ever played a British character but from I’ve seen him do I feel he could have pulled it off but then again maybe they tried and wasn’t feeling it. I felt his portrayal added extra camp to this which harkened back to the first film which was perfect as I felt the most campy aspect of the first film was Warner’s over acted performance which I enjoyed quite a bit.

One thing of disappointment with this film was how at times in different parts of the story it would start down the path of a deeper theme that would have been interesting if they spent the whole story fully exploring but just stay surface level and never go anywhere as if they were trying to be subtle but in the end feeling like this was a masterclass in being way too subtle in subtext and how not committing to something can hurt the story and leave unsatisfying.

Now I still enjoyed the film because who can deny watching a fantastic sci-fi spectacle matched perfectly with a phenomenal Nine Inch Nails soundtrack.
